Birch & Maple Bakery is a microbakery (a small-scale, home-based bakery) based in Takoma Park, Maryland with a focus on producing small batches of seasonal treats and custom cakes.

About your baker: Meet Katie

​​I've been baking since childhood and was lucky to grow up in the state of New Hampshire ten minutes from the one-and-only King Arthur Flour where I took some of my first baking classes. My first baking love was cakes, but my exploration of baked goods and desserts has only grown over the years. I have been fortunate to travel widely and learn from a number of pastry chefs about the beautiful world of baked goods, including tasting my way through diverse flavors and techniques across the globe to bring back to my own kitchen. For me, baking is about joy, learning, celebration, and building community and care through sharing something delicious. Thanks for visiting, and I hope I get to bake for you soon.

About the name

Birch & Maple Bakery is named after two of my favorite trees from growing up in New England that also produce sweet syrups that can be used in cooking and baking. When I'm not baking, I work on people-centered conservation and climate movements, and an appreciation of nature and sustainability is core to me as a person and a baker. I am further inspired to bake with seasonal and local ingredients, with playful combinations of global flavors, and for opportunities to make someone's day a little more special.
